A Special Move from Chingford to Kent

When Mr. and Mrs. Harris, a couple in their 70s from Chingford, reached out to Chingford Removal Company, they were preparing for a big change. After many years in their family home, they had decided to relocate to Kent to be closer to their daughter. They had accumulated a lot of belongings over the years, including precious family treasures, furniture, and personal items. This wasn’t just a small move - it was a significant step in their lives, and they needed a company they could trust to handle everything with care.

Understanding the Challenges

The Harris family’s move involved much more than just relocating a few boxes. They had a substantial amount of furniture to move, including lots of antique crockery and ornaments that had been in the family for generations, as well as a large collection of personal items that had sentimental value. There was also the added complexity of their new home in Kent being smaller than their Chingford property, meaning they couldn’t take everything with them. They decided to place some of their furniture and belongings into storage to sort through later. From the outset we knew that this would require extra attention to detail - careful packing, a clearly organised plan, and efficient logistics to ensure that both the move and the storage solutions would go smoothly.

Careful Planning and Preparation

A bigger home means more vans and a larger team on the day.

Our first step was to meet with them to understand the full scope of the move. We conducted a detailed assessment of their belongings and discussed the logistics. It was clear they had a lot to move, so we recommended using multiple removal vans and a larger team of movers to ensure everything would be handled properly.

Packing was the most significant part of the plan. We used high-quality materials to ensure everything - from fragile items like glassware and picture frames to large pieces of furniture - would be well protected during the journey. We carefully packed their boxes, labelling everything to make the unpacking process as easy as possible. We also arranged for a secure storage facility for the furniture and items that the couple wasn’t yet ready to bring to their new home. This provided them with the flexibility to go through their items at their own pace, knowing their belongings were safe and accessible whenever they needed them.

Storage works best for the things worth keeping. A useful test is to compare what an item would cost to store for as long as you expect with what it would cost to replace: a solid wood table usually passes, a flat-pack bookcase rarely does. Our guide on deciding what to store explains how to choose.

Moving Day

Moving day arrived and our team was ready. We arrived promptly at the Harris’s home with a full team of movers and the necessary equipment to get the job done efficiently. The first task was to carefully pack and load their most delicate items, including the antique dining table which required extra care. We wrapped it securely in blankets and padded materials to protect it during the move. As the team worked through the house, we methodically packed the rest of their belongings. We took extra care with boxes containing fragile items, ensuring everything was properly sealed and protected for transport. The Harris family were on hand to oversee the move and offer any last-minute instructions, and we made sure to keep them informed every step of the way.

One of the more challenging aspects of this move was the size of the furniture. Some of the pieces were large, and we had to work together as a team to carefully disassemble and move them. Despite the challenges, our experienced team was able to efficiently handle the logistics, making sure everything was packed, loaded, and ready for the journey to Kent.

Transport and Delivery

Once everything had been packed up, we carefully loaded everything onto the vans. Given the number of items and the need for secure transport, we made sure to organise the load efficiently to prevent any damage during the journey. The trip from Chingford to Kent was straightforward and upon arrival, we were ready to unload. The Harris family’s new home was smaller, so we worked with them to figure out the best place for their furniture and belongings. We didn’t just want to unload their items - we wanted to make sure they were comfortable and happy with the placement of everything in their new space. Our team worked closely with them to set things up exactly how they wanted, from the furniture arrangement to the unpacking of their personal items.

For the items that the Harris family decided to keep but weren’t yet ready to bring into their new home, we took them to our secure storage facility. We made sure everything was packed and stored with care, and we gave the family peace of mind knowing their belongings were safe until they were ready to sort through them at a later date.

Amazing Service and A Happy Family

The move was a success and the Harris family were extremely happy with how everything turned out. They were relieved to have all their belongings safely moved and stored and they appreciated the care and attention our team gave to each and every item. The packing, the transport, and the storage solutions we provided gave them the flexibility they needed during a significant transition. By the end of the day Mr. and Mrs. Harris were settled into their new home, and while there was still some sorting to do, they could relax knowing their belongings were in safe hands. They expressed their gratitude for how smoothly everything had gone, particularly considering how much they had to move and the additional step of organising storage for some of their items.
