Self-Storage Kensington and Chelsea
Self-Storage in Kensington and Chelsea: Collection from SW3, SW5, SW7, SW10, W8 and W14
Kensington and Chelsea is one of the most expensive boroughs in Europe, and the storage market reflects that premium. Safestore operates two facilities, one on Tregunter Road near Chelsea Harbour and another on the Chelsea Embankment at Blantyre Street. Access Self Storage sits on King’s Road in Chelsea, Shurgard has a basement-level operation on Kinnerton Street in Belgravia, and a handful of smaller operators fill the gaps.
All charge some of the highest per-square-foot rates in London, and all assume you will hire a van, load it outside a stuccoed townhouse on a residents-only street controlled by RBKC parking enforcement, navigate the congestion charge zone, and unload into a corridor unit yourself.
About Kensington and Chelsea Self Storage Services
We remove all of that for Kensington and Chelsea customers. Our team brings a container to your SW3, SW5, SW7, SW10, W8 or W14 address, dismantles and wraps what needs it, loads it and takes it away sealed. The container that left your home comes back to any address you pick.
An established, AIM-accredited removal and storage company, RMV has served London for over fifteen years. We are fully insured for goods in transit and as warehouse keepers, and our premises are protected by alarms, fencing and continuous CCTV. Gated access, a security fence, intruder alarms and CCTV keep the facility secure day and night.
For customers asking is self-storage worth it, those independently verifiable credentials matter more than the introductory discounts that reset after a promotional window, a pricing structure common across the borough’s branded depots. The About Us page tells the full story of the company.
Kensington and Chelsea Storage Rates
For scale: a container is 155 cm wide, 215 cm deep and 245 cm tall, or 280 cubic feet.
One container is £19.99 per week, and each extra one adds the same, up to £119.94 for six.
The weekly price already includes collection from your SW3, SW5, SW7, SW10, W8 or W14 address, the crew's labour, wrapping, transport and redelivery. We do not use introductory rates, visit fees or weekend charges.
Customers searching for cheap self-storage or affordable self-storage in Kensington will find that comparison particularly sharp in this borough, where walk-in units on Tregunter Road or King’s Road can start above £9 per day before you factor in van hire, congestion charge, fuel, and your own loading time.
For anyone researching how to find cheap storage near me, the total cost of getting belongings into storage, not just the headline unit rate, is the comparison that matters.
There is no contract for storage; it simply rolls on month to month. When you are done, give at least 10 working days' notice; storage is charged until the notice period ends, and nothing extra is charged after that.
That structure supports both short term storage rental during a property refurbishment and long term storage rental for overseas relocations, sabbaticals, or the extended build programmes that listed-property renovations in this borough routinely require.
Matching Containers to Your Kensington and Chelsea Home
A single container holds the contents of a large bedroom or a studio flat; the format found in the mansion-block conversions along Kensington High Street and the newer developments around Chelsea Harbour.
Allow two containers for one bedroom.
Three cover a standard two-bedroom home, the most common layout in the lateral conversions across the white-stucco terraces of South Kensington and the Chelsea squares.
Four to six containers absorb the larger townhouses on Cheyne Walk, Carlyle Square, and the double-fronted properties along Holland Park Avenue toward Notting Hill.
From one container of boxes to several for a family home, you pay for what you fill.
Not sure how many containers? The online calculator works it out from your rooms and furniture.
Storage During a Kensington and Chelsea House Move
The property market in this borough operates at a scale where completions involve solicitors, surveyors, and sometimes heritage consultants working across months of negotiation.
Lateral conversions in the Boltons regularly trade above five million pounds. Period houses along Launceston Place and Kensington Square carry listing restrictions that complicate any refurbishment timeline.
Even shorter chains, a flat on Beaufort Street exchanging to a maisonette on Elm Park Gardens, can stall when a buyer’s mortgage valuation triggers a renegotiation. Storage bridges those gaps.
Our Kensington and Chelsea removals team loads the containers when you move out and brings them to your next address when the keys are in hand. A single booking means the same crew and the same insurance from moving day to delivery.
Smaller jobs follow the same model. A single room clearing ahead of a kitchen refit in a listed terrace where RBKC conservation officers add months to the approvals process, furniture removed during a basement excavation, the dominant renovation type across SW3 and SW7, or belongings that will not fit a downsized flat after a divorce settlement.
Our Kensington and Chelsea man and van collects, loads and delivers to the facility in a single trip. Many customers store between homes, which works best when the same crew moves and stores.
You arrange moving and storage in a single call, with one company doing both.
Who Uses Self-Storage in Kensington and Chelsea?
Storage facilities near Kensington serve a borough where properties are among the most valuable in the country, but internal space is rarely proportionate to price. Homeowners across SW3, SW7, and W8 use furniture storage during the basement-dig and rear-extension projects that have become the defining renovation of the borough over the past decade.
Landlords managing furnished lets along Knightsbridge and the streets behind Sloane Square rotate furnishings between tenancies or store high-value pieces while properties are rented unfurnished.
Student storage London picks up each summer from Imperial College and Royal College of Art students who rent across the SW7 postcodes and need somewhere to hold belongings during vacation breaks or between academic placements.
Business storage units serve the interior designers, antique dealers, and gallery owners along King’s Road and Kensington Church Street, as well as the private medical practices and consultancy firms that occupy period premises across W8 and SW7.
Document storage and archive storage suit the solicitor offices, family trusts, and wealth managers around Chelsea and South Kensington who retain decades of physical records under regulatory obligations but operate from properties where every square foot of floor space commands a premium.
Seasonal storage works for any household where ski equipment, garden furniture, outdoor heaters, and event supplies compete for hallway and cellar space in a property where the only original storage was a Victorian coal vault beneath the pavement.
Vehicle storage suits residents who maintain a second car in a borough where RBKC annual parking permits already exceed £200 and street space is perpetually scarce.
Bike storage units serve the cycling commuters heading to Hammersmith or the West End who lack covered parking in a mansion block or mews house.
Garage storage units appeal to trades professionals working across the borough, specialist plasterers, heritage joiners, and restoration contractors, who need secure space for tools and materials without committing to commercial rent in one of the most expensive square miles in the country.
A container is clean, dry and ventilated, insured to £2,000, and you can add cover for valuable items.
Packing for Storage
Before a long stay in storage, give your belongings some attention. For mattresses use sealed covers, for glass and ceramics individual wrapping, and for sofas dust sheets.
Antique furniture, fine art, and heirloom rugs, items common across Kensington and Chelsea households, benefit from acid-free tissue and custom crating when stored for extended periods.
To pack early, book the Kensington and Chelsea packing service or have boxes, wardrobe cartons and mattress bags from the Packing Shop sent to your SW3, SW5, SW7, SW10, W8 or W14 address.
Our blog offers simple guides to packing and to the items our insurance terms cover. Price is only half of it; how items are prepared decides their condition later.
Coverage Beyond Kensington and Chelsea
We collect from anywhere across the borough and neighbouring areas. The same container service runs in Fulham, Paddington, Battersea, Bayswater, and Kensington.
If your move ends overseas, our international removals team ships from your door and deals with customs.
Possessions not making the trip can remain in storage at the same rate, a long-term option for expatriates.
Boxes, a room or a whole home: self-storage Kensington and Chelsea through RMV is crew-loaded, insured and free of contracts.
No navigating RBKC parking enforcement to reach a depot, no premium corridor rates in SW10, no padlock to lose.

Storage tips
Storing it the right way
Ending storage properly
Give the notice your agreement requires and book the return delivery to whichever address you choose. Decide what is not coming home before the delivery: selling or donating from a warehouse is easier than from a hallway.
Storage rules explainedStorage without moving
Many London flats have no loft, garage or shed. Containers can be delivered to your address, loaded and collected with no move involved, which suits bikes, seasonal gear or a spare room you need back.
Is storage worth it?What fits in a container
Each container is 155 cm wide, 215 cm deep and 245 cm tall, about 280 cubic feet. As a rough guide, one takes a large bedroom or studio flat, two a one-bedroom flat, three a two-bedroom property, and five or six a four-bedroom house.
How container storage worksWorking with Riki and the team at RMV London has been an amazing experience from end to end. I used RMV to help me pack my two bedroom flat, inventory it and store it before my move from London to the US. The team who helped me pack and remove my belongings were very professional and fast, even producing box inventories to assist with shipping internationally later.
Once I settled in the US, Riki and the team went the extra mile to help me sort and separate my boxes and furniture between what I would ship to the US and what I gave away to charity - all remotely with me in the States. Riki also kindly offered heavily discounted rates to take most of my stuff to charity - to help a young family in need.
I cannot recommend Riki and the team enough - you simply cannot go wrong in working with RMV!
