Take a look at our London Storage UnitWhat is the size of each container?
Each container is 155cm (5 feet) wide x 215cm (7 feet) deep x 245cm (8 feet) tall. This is 3.3 sq metres (35 square feet) and 8 cubic metres (280 cubic feet).
How many containers does a Hackney terrace need?
Three cover a two-bedroom home, typical between Well Street and Lauriston Road, and four to six the larger Victorian houses around Clapton Square and towards Victoria Park.
Is there a storage facility in Hackney?
There is one walk-in facility in the borough, on Leaside Road in Upper Clapton. Most others are outside Hackney, so we bring a container to your street instead.
Can I store bikes or a motorbike in Hackney?
Yes. Bike storage suits commuters to Hackney Central or Hoxton without covered parking, and vehicle storage suits residents on CPZ streets.
Is it possible to fit large pieces of furniture inside?
Yes, it is very unlikely that an item of furniture will not fit.
Do I need to come to the storage premises if I’ve booked a removal and storage combined?
No. We can take your items and place them in storage without you being there. You can sign all the relevant documents online.
Is the storage site safe and secure?
Yes, they are fully alarmed with CCTV. The premises are protected by security fencing and gates as well as the required safety measures.

Self-Storage Hackney
Container Storage for E5, E8 and E9 in Hackney
Hackney has one purpose-built walk-in storage facility in the entire borough, Make Space on Leaside Road in Upper Clapton. Beyond that, the nearest branded centres sit outside the borough entirely: Henfield at Southwark, Shurgard at Bethnal Green or Bow, Lok’nGo off the A12 at Ilford.
For anyone living along Mare Street, around London Fields, or across the estates between Graham Road and Pembury Road, getting belongings into any of those depots means hiring a van, loading it yourself on a terraced street with no parking bay, and driving through some of the most congested roads in inner London.
Work With the Best in the Business
With RMV, storage in Hackney avoids every one of those steps. We deliver a container to your E5, E8 or E9 address, load it for you with everything wrapped, and store the sealed unit at our facility.
The same container comes back to you, at any address, when you are ready. One booking replaces the van, the fuel and the afternoon you would spend at a depot.
Our removals and storage business is AIM accredited and has operated in London for over fifteen years. Protection comes in two parts: full Goods in Transit and warehouse-keeper liability insurance, and a site secured by CCTV, alarms and fencing at all hours.
Our site has 24-hour CCTV, intruder alarms, security fencing and controlled entry gates. If you are wondering is self-storage worth it, these checkable credentials matter more than a short-term discount.
The full background on the company, including our accreditation and insurance documentation, is on our About Us page.
How Much Is Storage in Hackney?
One container is 155 cm wide and 215 cm deep, stands 245 cm tall and holds 280 cubic feet. Weekly self-storage prices: £19.99 for one container, £39.98 for two, £59.97 for three and £119.94 for six.
That one rate includes collection from your E5, E8 or E9 address, the crew, furniture dismantling, wrapping, transport to storage and redelivery. There are no introductory rates that jump later, no access fees per visit and no weekend surcharges.
Customers searching for cheap self-storage or affordable self-storage in E8 will find that the total cost undercuts walk-in depots once you add the van hire, fuel, and loading labour those facilities assume you will arrange yourself. For the cheapest storage, compare what it costs to get your belongings stored, not the headline unit price.
We do not lock you in: storage unit rental runs month to month. You can cancel at any time, with no penalties: give at least 10 working days' notice, and storage is charged until the notice period ends. This works for short stays between completions and for long-term storage while you live abroad.
Hackney Storage: How Much Space?
Enough for a studio flat or one big bedroom. Two units normally hold a one-bedroom home.
Three cover a standard two-bedroom home, the dominant format in the terraced streets between Well Street and Lauriston Road and along the Chatsworth Road corridor. Four to six containers absorb the larger three- and four-bedroom Victorian houses found around Clapton Square, the roads off Stoke Newington Church Street, and the period properties toward Victoria Park.
There is no minimum: book one container for a few boxes or six for a full household. Our storage calculator estimates your containers from rooms and furniture and shows the price instantly, so you only book what you fill.
Storage During a Hackney House Move
Hackney’s property market moves between Victorian terrace conversions, ex-council right-to-buy flats, and the new-build developments spreading from Hackney Wick along the canal toward Homerton. Chains collapse, completions slip, and leases expire before the next tenancy begins. Storage during a house move bridges those gaps.
With our Hackney removals service, your home goes into containers on moving day and comes back out when the new keys arrive.
Removals and storage run as one booking with one crew and one insurance policy, so nothing is handed over between companies. Storage between houses is one of the most common E8 bookings, particularly for families selling a Victorian terrace and waiting on a property in a different borough.
Smaller jobs follow the same model. A single room clearing ahead of a loft conversion, a home office that needs to vacate for rewiring, or furniture that will not fit a downsized flat on Mare Street, our Hackney man and van collects, loads, and delivers to the facility in one trip.
That flexibility turns storage units for moving into a single phone call, and it shows why removals and storage works better as a combined service, same fleet, same crew, same insurance, rather than two separate bookings with two separate companies.
Who Uses Self-Storage in Hackney?
Storage facilities near Hackney serve a densely populated borough where living space is at a premium and almost no residential property has a garage. Homeowners across E8 and E9 use furniture storage during kitchen refits, side-return extensions, and the increasingly common full-house rewiring projects that require rooms to be cleared completely.
Landlords managing HMO conversions on Amhurst Road and Graham Road rotate tenant furnishings between tenancies, and student storage London picks up each summer from students at the University of the Arts campuses, London Metropolitan, and the postgraduate renters across Dalston and Clapton who store between academic years.
Business storage units serve the independent retailers, studios, and food businesses clustered around Broadway Market, London Fields, and Chatsworth Road. Document storage and archive storage suit the creative agencies, architecture practices, and legal firms that operate from converted railway arches and repurposed commercial units along Kingsland Road and into Shoreditch, premises with character but no filing capacity.
Seasonal storage works for any Hackney household where the property was built as a two-up-two-down terrace with no loft hatch and no outdoor shed, which describes a significant proportion of the housing stock between Hackney Downs and London Fields.
Vehicle storage suits residents in CPZ-restricted streets who keep a second car, a camper van, or a motorbike they cannot park outside the property.
Bike storage units serve the cycling commuters heading to Hackney Central or Hoxton Overground who lack covered parking at home and face persistent theft risk from hallway storage.
Trades and mobile workers in E8 and E9 keep tools, equipment and stock in garage storage units instead of renting yard space by the Lea Navigation.
Insurance of £2,000 comes with every container, and each is dry, clean and well ventilated.
Packing for Storage
Good preparation makes all the difference for longer stays in storage. Mattresses should be sealed in covers, fragile glass and china wrapped one by one, and sofas covered with dust sheets.
The crew takes care of packing while loading; to get ahead, book the Hackney packing service or order materials from the Packing Shop, sent to your E5, E8 or E9 address.
For help packing and a guide to permitted items, visit our blog. Price matters, but careful packing is what keeps your belongings in good condition.
Coverage Beyond Hackney
Every local postcode is covered, along with the surrounding areas. The same container service runs in Bethnal Green, Islington, Clapton, Haggerston, Leytonstone, and Stoke Newington. Heading overseas from Hackney? We manage the shipping, customs paperwork and delivery through our international removals service.
Whatever is not going abroad can stay in storage at the normal weekly price, a simple long-term solution.
However much you need to store in Hackney, from one box to six containers, you get insured, crew-loaded space at a fixed weekly rate.
No driving to Clapton or Southwark, no queuing for a corridor unit, no padlock to lose. Get Hackney storage delivered: book online or call 0208 0900 232.

Storage tips
Storing it the right way
What fits in a container
Each container is 155 cm wide, 215 cm deep and 245 cm tall, about 280 cubic feet. As a rough guide, one takes a large bedroom or studio flat, two a one-bedroom flat, three a two-bedroom property, and five or six a four-bedroom house.
How container storage worksWhat you can’t store
Nothing perishable, such as food or plants. Nothing flammable or hazardous, such as paint, aerosols, gas canisters, petrol, fireworks or chemicals. Nothing illegal and nothing alive. Rugs, soft furnishings and mattresses should be clean and completely dry.
Storage rules explainedYour container is yours alone
Each container is allocated to one customer and sealed after loading, so nobody else has access to the contents. Containers are stacked inside a monitored, alarmed and access-controlled warehouse, not left in a yard.
How container storage worksWe have been working with Patrick and Riki at RMV for maybe 5 years now and they have never let us down, would trust them with any move or project. They are super careful, fast and organised can`t recommend more highly!
