Got questions?
We've got answers...

  • How much notice do I need to give to reserve my Removals UK to Czech Republic service?

Usually it’s best to book at least a week in advance. We still welcome short notice jobs, please check with our team regarding availability. You can call us, drop us a line or chat via Whatsapp.

  • I've never used a Removals UK to Czech Republic company before, can I book an assessment?

Yes you can. We would love to visit you for a free no obligation quote. You can also send us a walkthough video of your property so we can assess further.

  • I need a moving company in Czech Republic to move me outside London, what’s your coverage?

We cover the whole of the UK and also most European countries.

  • Do I need customs clearance for removals to Czech Republic since Brexit?

Yes. Every UK-to-Czech Republic removal has needed formal clearance with the Celní správa České republiky since 1 January 2021, whatever the volume or value. We prepare and handle all the customs paperwork for you as part of every booking.

  • What is the Czech Transfer of Residence process and do I need it?

The Czech Transfer of Residence process allows qualifying British nationals to import household goods without paying Czech import VAT (21% of declared value). You must be relocating your primary residence to the Czech Republic, have been resident outside the EU for at least 12 months, and have owned all goods for at least six months. RMV prepares all required documentation including the Celní prohlášení and reviews every document package before the vehicle departs the UK.

  • Can I move to Czech Republic without paying 21% import VAT on my belongings?

Yes, provided you qualify for Transfer of Residence relief: the goods must arrive within 12 months of you becoming Czech resident and you must keep them for at least 12 months afterwards. We prepare and check every document.

  • What is part load removals to Czech Republic and is it suitable for a small move?

Part load means sharing vehicle space with other customers moving to the Czech Republic or Central Europe, and paying only for the cubic metres you use. It is the cheapest option for studios, one-bedroom flats and student moves. Delivery to Prague usually takes 5–10 days, a little longer than a full load, and part load departures to the Czech Republic run on a regular schedule.

  • Do I need a visa or residence permit to live in Czech Republic?

British visitors can spend up to 90 days in any 180 in the Czech Republic without a visa. Staying longer, including moving permanently, needs a residence permit from the Czech authorities. We do not arrange permits, but we plan your shipment around your confirmed residency documents.

  • Can you help with furniture assembly or setup at my Czech property?

Yes. Our handyman service can dismantle and assemble furniture and fit fixtures at your UK address and, if arranged in advance, at your new Czech home to help you settle in.
    Handyman service

  • How far in advance should I book a removal to Czech Republic?

Book a full load of three bedrooms or more four to six weeks ahead, so there is time for the survey, the customs paperwork and vehicle scheduling. Part loads usually need two to three weeks. If it is urgent or this week, call us on 0208 0900 232.

Czech Republic Removals from the UK: Prague, Brno, Ostrava and Plzeň

From Prague and Brno to Ostrava, Plzeň, Liberec and every Czech region, RMV Storage & Removals moves UK households door to door, with full load, part load or groupage, post-Brexit customs clearance and the Transfer of Residence paperwork handled for you.

UK to Czech Republic Removal Cost

The Czech Republic occupies a unique position in Central Europe. Prague consistently ranks among Europe's most visited capitals and most liveable cities, attracting British professionals, academics, entrepreneurs and lifestyle movers in growing numbers each year. Beyond Prague, the country offers Brno's thriving technology and university scene, Ostrava's regenerating industrial city with its affordable property market, and the spa towns and countryside of Bohemia and Moravia.

Since 1 January 2021, however, the Czech Republic is an EU member state and the UK is a third country. Every household goods removal from the UK to the Czech Republic now requires a formal customs clearance process with the Celní správa České republiky (Czech Customs). Qualifying for Transfer of Residence relief, which allows your belongings to be imported without paying Czech import VAT at 21%, requires specific documentation that must be prepared correctly before the vehicle crosses the Czech border.

RMV manages the full Czech customs process on your behalf, including the Celní prohlášení (Czech customs declaration), the itemised and valued inventory, and the customs agent authorisation. Full company details and AIM accreditation are on our About Us page.

Czech Customs Rules After Brexit

Since Brexit, all removals from the UK to the Czech Republic require customs clearance. To import household goods duty-free, you must qualify for Czech Transfer of Residence relief under the Celní prohlášení procedure.

Household goods arriving from outside the EU must be formally declared to the Czech customs authority (Celní správa České republiky). If you are a British national making the Czech Republic your main home, Transfer of Residence relief removes Czech import VAT (21% of declared value), provided you meet every condition and the paperwork is complete before your goods reach the Czech border.

To qualify for Czech Transfer of Residence relief you need: at least 12 months living outside the EU before the move; at least six months of owning and using the goods at your UK home; to import them within 12 months of becoming Czech resident; and not to sell, pledge or transfer them for 12 months after import.

Staying in the Czech Republic for more than 90 days in any 180 requires a residence permit for British nationals. We do not arrange permits, but we time your shipment around your confirmed Czech residency documents, which Czech customs will ask to see.

Paperwork for a Czech Move

Czech Transfer of Residence clearance needs the documents below. We supply all blank forms and check everything before departure.

  • Passport copy, identity and nationality confirmation for Czech customs (Celní správa)
  • Czech proof of residence: rental contract, property deed or registration confirmation
  • A signed, dated inventory listing everything you are moving, with an estimated second-hand value for each category
  • Completed Celní prohlášení (Czech customs declaration) for Transfer of Residence import duty and VAT exemption
  • A signed statement that you have owned and used the goods in your UK home for over six months and will keep them for at least 12 months after import
  • Signed authorisation letting RMV deal with Czech customs as your direct representative
  • Evidence that you lived in the UK for the 12 months before the move, such as council tax bills, bank statements or a UK Certificate of Residence
  • CMR consignment note, filled in by our driver at collection

Incorrectly completed customs documents are the most consistent cause of delays at the Czech border. RMV reviews every document package before the vehicle departs the UK. All packing materials for a Czech Republic move are available through our Packing Shop.

Who We Move to Czech Republic

Professionals and Entrepreneurs Relocating to Prague

Prague is the primary destination for British professionals moving to the Czech Republic, driven by the city's growing technology and startup ecosystem, its established financial services sector, and the presence of major international companies with European headquarters in the capital. Most professionals moving to Prague bring the contents of a one to three-bedroom flat and have a fixed start date with their employer. Our man and van service handles smaller professional moves, and our removals service manages full household relocations with customs coordination as a single booking.

Students and Academics Moving to Brno and Prague

The Czech Republic has a strong university sector: Charles University in Prague, Masaryk University in Brno and the Czech Technical University attract British postgraduate students and researchers in significant numbers. These moves are typically small in volume and cost-sensitive, making part load or groupage the standard choice. Part load removals to the Czech Republic start from a few cubic metres, suitable for a studio or single room.

Permanent Family Moves to the Czech Republic

Families moving permanently to the Czech Republic, often to Prague's residential districts or the Bohemian countryside, usually need a full load for the contents of a three to five-bedroom home, including furniture, white goods and personal belongings. If you leave the UK before your Czech home is ready, our storage service covers the gap.

Businesses Setting Up Czech Operations

Commercial relocations from UK offices to Czech premises require EORI-registered customs handling and commercial invoice documentation. Prague's business districts and Brno's technology parks are the primary destinations for UK business relocations. Our removals service covers commercial relocations to the Czech Republic for businesses of all sizes.

Full Load, Part Load or Groupage to the Czech Republic

Choose from three ways to move to the Czech Republic, depending on how much you are moving, your budget and when you need it there.

Full Load (Exclusive Vehicle)

Your belongings occupy the entire vehicle from UK collection to Czech delivery. The vehicle loads at your address and travels directly to your Czech destination, with customs clearance en route. Full load to Prague typically takes 3–4 days door to door; to Brno and Ostrava 3–5 days; to Plzeň and Liberec 3–4 days. Full load is standard for three-bedroom or larger household moves and for any move where schedule certainty is critical.

Part Load and Groupage (Shared Vehicle)

Your belongings are consolidated with those of other customers moving to the Czech Republic or Central Europe. You pay only for the cubic metreage your goods occupy. Part load delivery to Prague typically takes 5–10 days door to door; to Brno and Ostrava 6–10 days. Part load is the standard choice for studios, one-bedroom flats, student moves and any move where cost is the primary consideration.

Pre-Departure Storage

If you leave the UK before your Czech home is ready, our storage service keeps your packed belongings in secure UK storage until it is, so you are not living among boxes in an empty house.

Removals to Key Czech Cities and Regions

RMV delivers to all Czech regions and cities. Estimated door-to-door transit times from London are provided below.

  • Prague (Praha), the Czech capital and the primary destination for British professionals, entrepreneurs and expats. Full load 3–4 days; part load 5–10 days.
  • Brno, the Czech Republic's second city and a major technology and university hub in Moravia. Full load 3–5 days; part load 6–10 days.
  • Ostrava, the regenerating industrial city in the north-east, popular for its affordable property and growing creative scene. Full load 4–5 days; part load 6–10 days.
  • Plzeň (Pilsen), western Bohemia's industrial and cultural city, known internationally for its brewing heritage. Full load 3–4 days; part load 5–10 days.
  • Liberec, northern Bohemia's mountain city, popular with outdoor enthusiasts and the German-border commuter community. Full load 3–4 days; part load 5–10 days.
  • České Budějovice (Budweis), the South Bohemian capital, gateway to the Šumava National Park and popular with families seeking a slower pace. Full load 3–5 days; part load 5–10 days.

These times include customs. Delays at the border nearly always come from incomplete paperwork. Our blog has more guides to moving to the Czech Republic.
